Media and Race Precis
In her article "Media and Race" (2009) Ezra Klein of CBS asserts that race is still an issue within each part of American media. She goes on to express her feelings on how our nations history with race is cleaned up and turned into classic American tales of people overcoming oppression because of brave leaders from their community. Klein says all of this in order to state the obvious, that race is still an issue today but it is one that does not want to me touched by anyone because of our past.

Topic Freewrite
While in the process of doing research on my topic I made the mistake of writing a precis on a book that is about my topic instead of a scholarly article. This book written by Beulah Ainley in 1998 was called "Black Journalists, White Media". Now obviously I did not sit down and read the entire book but I was able to read a small portion of it which I believe addressed the purpose of the book. This book discusses the issue of race in a media prodominately run by whites and how the race of a journalist can effect the stories they choose to investigate or write about. Ainley even gives personal occassions on the subject, "Of the 80 whom I informed I was black only 45 had the courtesy to reply. Some of those who did not reply went on advertising their vacancies for weeks afterward."

Race in Media precis
In this novel, "Black Journalist, White Media (1998)" author Beulah Ainley writes on just that, the amount of black journalist in the media and why. The author uses hard evidence, facts and even personal experience in order to bring out the issue of race in the media which is the reason some stories are never brought to light.

Outline
Introduction: In today's society influences are seen all around us, from famous people and the cars they buy all the way down to the gear a professional athelete wears to help his or her performance. In between the companies who make these products and the people they want to buy them is one thing, the media. In American today we are slowly watching the media take over generation after generation with the new technology and advances.
Definition: When I speak about media I am referring to the four main groups of media; Television, Radio, Literature, and the Internet. Within these four forms of media are numerous sub-groups that specify in just about any thing the media can and will provide for you for such as news reports, blogs and social networks, national public radio, and the worst of all reality television.

Working thesis #2
Some of the problems the American society is facing with the latest generations of children can be attributed to the information consumed from the American Media.
I feel this working thesis is a good one to start with because it states what I will be talking about, and is broad enough to allow my paper to reach a various amount of topics.

The American Media and It's Effects
The problem with American media is that the majority of it has no intellectual value and is literally dumbing down our society. The group of people who are effected most are the younger generation of American who live in the media. Parents who do not monitor or regulate what their children are watching can be considered to be one of the problems behind this issue. Many people have tried to suggest things that parents should do to keep their children from watching media that is not suitable for their age such as parental control on televisions. Because of the freedoms we have in America people are not forced to do this so most don't. In the future if the American media does not improve its overall content out nation will continue to fall behind other contries as far as intellect goes.

A Hard Days Working Thesis
Though this statement is not very broad I feel that it asks a question that I will be able to accurately answer and elaborate on throughout my paper.

Chapter 7 Precis
Though Chapter 7 of Good Reasons: Researching and Writing Effective Arguments (2010) is one of the shortest chapters in the book the authors got the point across very effectively. They emphasize using your personal knowledge and experiences to bring out pathos in order to sway your readers to agree with your argument. They label this as "Finding a Purpose for Writing an Argument."
Chapter 4 Precis
Chapter four of Good Reasons: Researching and Writing Effective Arguments (2010) shows us how to do just that and breaks down one of the most important parts of any paper, the thesis statement. The authors of this specific chapter have broken down how to create and effectively allow your thesis to guide your paper into numerous categories such as writing with your readers in mind. This includes understanding who you want to target, what they know and do not know about the topic and their feelings towards the issue such as concerned, well informed, fair, and ethical. These and other topics are what the authors have brought to our attention in order to help their readers be more effective writers when it comes to persuasive writing.

The More Money, The More Problems
NCAA athletes being bribed with and/or taking money from schools, sports agents, and even school alumni has been a big deal ever since it was outlawed by infamous and sometimes famous NCAA itself. Today one of the biggest concerns of the association is athletes taking money under the table in order to keep them comfortable while they perform for the school. This whole article is centered around why giving money to athletes in ways besides scholarships, the best gear, television appearances and basically nationwide fame may not be the only ways an amateur player could be paid. The author breaks down almost every way these huge division one athletic programs receive money each season which includes endorsements with every huge company and even television contracts for their games to be aired. He even goes as far as comparing the athletes to slaves as far as not being payed in case for their 'labor'. All in all writing a paper in which opinions backed with facts is the best way to go about an argument but at the end of the day its still an opinion.

In Chapter One of the book Good Reasons (2010) the author break down and explain the differences that separate normal arguments from arguing in a college level paper. The things they have brought out that make up this huge difference are, credible research, arguing responsibly, expanding the reader's knowledge of the subject with the detail of your analysis and many other reasons. This chapter was created in order to identify the skills of writing the readers will need to perfect in order to adequately persuade their audience with the arguments they pose.

This is the link to the first page I found as I attempted to find a blog that would interest me on this website. This blog consists of mainly pictures that show the process all kinds of guitars go through to be created. I thought this was great because I am a guitar player and I believe that the work put into making the guitar is just as important and beautiful as the music that will be played on these instruments is.
